American Nursing Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program

The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) and began to recognize excellence in nursing services in the 1990s. Research was conducted on hospitals that were able to attract nurses, and determine which variables were implemented to maintain the nursing force. The program also acknowledges healthcare organizations for quality patient care and innovations in nursing practice. The vision for Magnet and recognized organizations is to better the quality of nursing care through transformational leadership, structural empowerment, and improvements in healthcare. Magnet Recognition is beginning to lead healthcare on a pathway of excellence that will advance nursing standards and practice.
